Sorry, I dont have a pic handy, will try to add one later but my question is...

Is there much of an actual difference between the FMJ 5.56 color and the FMJ 9mm? I have a couple pairs that look almost identical but there is a slight difference in color. Is there really that much difference between them?

Based on your description, I presume it isn't the difference between 5.56 and 7.62, since that would be more noticeable. For the life of me, the 9mm color isn't coming to mind very well - but the mm colorways seemed to me to be a more matte/satin luster instead of the more shiny 5.56/7.62 colorways.

It could also just be 2 pairs of 5.56 with a difference in finish. The FMJ finishes would have slight variations. I remember back when an earstem would break on the 7.62 EJ I had, Oakley replaced the whole frame since just an earstem replacement wouldn't guarantee a color match.

Best is to post some pics. Or send both pairs to Francois to take some nice pics to post.

LOL... ship them to France for some pics? I must admit I never thought of that one. But the pics would be so much better than mine. I'll upload some pics tonight when I get a chance. It could be a variation in the finish but it is just a little to much different for me to think that could be it 100% Both frames were also purchased together and produced at the same time I believe as they were part of an in store display. I think...

Gen 1 Eye Jackets had a matte finish, while Gen 2 (not the 1999) had a clear coat. Does one have the word 'Jacket' inside the stem.

I'll have to double check but I believe both are Gen 2 pieces

That would at least take some guess work out.

OK, I know these pics arent great but I didnt have much time. Both are Gen II frames. The one with the lenses has more of a shiny finish, the one w/o lenses more of a matte finish. But not much difference between them.

FMJ application is highly susceptible to batch variation. They quality check them, but there's no set process aside from cook time. Going to page LEX7 and hope his photography skills have improved in the past 9 years.

Ill try and take a better pic later to show the difference maybe in a different light. There is definitely a difference when looking at them in person. The top down pic looks like it has a little more contrast between the two. If someone had a 9mm and a 5.56 that they were for sure about and could pic side by side that would be great.

you would think i have improved in 9 years........ha ha.

I will take some pics in the morning when hopefully there will be some light but from what i can see without remembering which is exactly which but the difference is enough i can tell so i would think you have two of the same and the paint batch must be slightly different but hopefully i can clear all of this up 2moro!

Are the colors really 5.56, 9mm, 7.62, and 45mm? I could have sworn it was .45, which makes sense.

Looking forward to the pics. The only other frame I am aware of that came out in the 9mm was the Five. Are there any others?

So 9mm is a little darker than I expected. Fairly certain you have two 5.56

I dont think that's a 9MM in the pic. According to everything I have seen, the 9mm is silver with black O and text. The finish looks quite polished as well in this pic. Also doesnt the 7.62 have white O and text?

damn, i think both Dann and myself got confused. its my fault cos my pics are awful but i think we got the 9mm and 7.62 mixed up.
Greg you are correct, i just looked and 7.62 has white text and 9mm is black. sorry Dann!

So then the colors roughly translate to

7.62 ~ black chrome
9mm ~ gunmetal grey
45 ~ almost a bronzy gunmetal
5.56 ~ bright silver

I still can't comprehend 45mm. I feel like it's a typo.

Even the 2 examples of 45mm in the pic arent the same. The 45MM I believe shoudnt have a bronze look to it, more of just a dark grey. Unfortunately even just different flash settings will change the look.

OK, now Im really confused...

So here is another shot of them together. One is matte, one more polished.

Now, here they are with an FMJ 5.56 RJ with and w/o flash. Not even close.

For reference, here they are with a 7.62 SJ

and now with a 45mm SJ, or at least thats what I think it is. with and w/o flash

7.62 and 9mm are swapped.
I would say your top one is 9mm and the bottom one is FMJ white (most likely since lenses are missing) or 5.56 (but not quite shiney enough). i know in my parts I have mulitple variations.

I would tend to agree that you probably aren't looking at 5.56 vs 9mm - there looks to be too great a variation between the 2 that doesn't seem to fit your 2 pairs. I think it really comes down to 2 different 5.56 pairs, or possibly a 5.56 and FMJ White. I'm just not that familiar with FMJ White myself.
