I'm not a knife collector, but I like nice knives. But what I like even more is to have them super sharp. What are you guys using to sharpen your knifes ?

Early on, I picked up the Spyderco Sharpmaker, and have just kept with that plus an extra couple varying grit stones. It seems to do a good job, only limited by my inexperience. From what I understand, the sharpmaker’ s main limitation may be any serious re-profiling of a blade if necessary.

For my kitchen knives I use a stone set to sharpen and then a honing steel to help them hold an edge after I use them a few times. I know someone with a large pocket knife collection and he only uses stones when restoring a blade. If it's not in poor condition he uses a leather strop to keep them in top shape.

I use a Gatco honing set for knives that need more work, and a small diamond honing tool for the others.

Thanks for your inputs. I have a very small pocket stone from Fällkniven, the DC3 I believe.
So small that it's just OK for pocket knives. But very convenient when going outdoor for a little extra sharpening.

A few recent notables, with two grail-worthy knives that got delivered this week. The last knife (blue) is a Holt Haptic, which runs a weekly lottery (usually about 2% chance of being drawn) in order to ‘win’ the chance to buy one of their knives.
