I bought a pair of First Generation E Wires (FGEW) because I have been wearing a my gold pair every day for almost 20 years. My gold FGEW sunglasses are in rough shape but still look and wear fine. I decided I would get another pair. I think they are not real Oakley FGEW sunglasses but will let you decide.

On the newer pair, it's using the Heavy Stretch logo which didn't come out until 2004 with the Stretchline collection. The E Wire came out in 1994 with the hammer stems and thinstretch logo, but converted to the A Wire style stems with the larger earsocks in 1998. I don't recall, but did the re-releases in 2014 change the logo to the more modern one.

The 20-year old one looks suspect too with mis-aligned etching and such.

The newer one looks good to me, but regarding the older pair I agree with Dann. To me those look not ok, the logo, the "more hollow" nose bridge, and the somehow thick looking rims seems to be not correct.

Sorry for the delay. I asked a friend who had the re-release and the original, and it is my opinion that the new one you bought is genuine, and the one you've had for 20 years is fake. The logos styles are correct on each, but the workmanship is not the same level as the genuine wires of the 90's.

Screws on the nose pad mounts are a sure sign of a fake E Wire.

I agree: genuine new, old fake.
WOW!
A 20 year old fake must be worth somethin'...
