Could someone explain to me why the carbon frames suffer paint wear (discoloration) at non-specific points.

Probably where people grab them to take them off and put them on or in places where the frames rubs on something. I think the coating on the carbons is pretty thin.

Really the places where peeling occurs in the painting, are places where it has friction with body parts, and also where we put our hands to handle the frame.
