i am interested in two things,

first from what i understand the AP line is being or has been phased out so i am curious about all the product that make up the AP line and what they look like.

second i have also been told that some if not a large part of the AP line was never avalable in canada. is this true and if so what are the product that aren't.

I was always pissed they never released any sort of "Pocket Pack" consisting of assorted attachable pieces like the front and side pockets of the AP Sandbag, Small open top pockets on the AP Pack or the neat little pack from the one boot. As far as it being phased out, that's kinda sad. They were nice looking bags. But it seemed none of the adaptable payload loops or hooks never had anything to really attach to them.

As for what items the line was made up of, specifically the

AP Leg Holster, AP Sandbag, AP Pack, AP Vest

Just about anything from SI duffles and luggage to computer bags and the Dopp Kit 2.0.

Most bags released in recent years from the Surf, Snow, MTB, Kitchen Sink, Graphic Pack and O Pack had loops, rings or daisy chains to hook items to and so on.

The A/P line is inspired by the MOLLE system of military gear.

The essence of the MOLLE system is that it allows the user to “customize” their gear. The economic benefit is that it allows military equipment buyers to buy a single kit in bulk, as opposed to a kit built for a rifleman and another one built for a radio operator.

All of the A/P pouches attach to Oakley bags the way MOLLE accessories attach, which is via a system of loops and straps and buttons. Any MOLLE accessories (such as pouches and pockets) will easily hook onto to the Oakley A/P bags.

There’s a pretty big market for aftermarket MOLLE accessories. If you go on eBay or browse any tactical supply retailers, you’ll find a large variety of MOLLE attachments. If they are available in black, they totally blend into you’re a/P setup. I personally attach several police-issue MOLLE pieces to my Large Rolling Duffel when I travel.

Look for MOLLE pieces that hold pistol ammo clips, and they’re about the same size as the A/P Dopp Kit attachments. There’s some great MOLLE pieces to hold walkie-talkies and cell phones as well.

Before Armor Holdings bought out SDS I was able to wrangle in a Patrol Pack off the back of the MOLLE System and a prototype of one of the bags they released for Special Forces and SWAT, which they later had plans to market in competition with companies like O.

MOLLE Patrol Pack and I figured a way to attach the Ruck Sack.


AP Packs - Canteen pack, grenade packs, flare pack, walkie talkie and M16 mag packs and so on. There are medic packs and a 9mm magazine holder ont eh Patrol Pack.

For me they're not as nice as Oakleys bags, but it's cool to have the real thing. What was real odd was as I worked with SDS they knew I was a huge Oakley fan and had known about O developing their own AP line and were watching them closely for patent infringement. In the same vein, when I met a few design folks at O they were also watching what SDS was doing leading up to the launch of what would have been called Eclipse, their consumer line based on the military packs.

I use the molle adaptation system at work. It is a great product. I wish Oakley went further with thier AP line.

It's a shame if it's true the AP line is being phased out. Other than the BLOCline art series and the X-metals, the AP lineup is one of my favourites. Very useful pieces.

What im wondering is why even bother to continue with the Ap line if oakley isnt going to make new vests, its not like a lot of people have them, let alone use them. Which yes im still hoping for a Ap Vest 2.0 to come out. Probably wont.

Whenever I have seen good pics of the AP Pack 2.0 it looks as though the harness doesn't come off like the first one. That the hardware is just there for the look of it this time and not function.

AP line might be going away, but I personally think the new RED SHIFT line of bags look way better.

It looks more like ww2 military gear / army surplus.

i still like the ap. it just looks diffrent and stands out. i agree with phil it looks surplus. with the ap peoples heads turn.

Hmm...I definitely prefer the somewhat futuristic look of the AP lineup what with all the black, but I also see the charm in the Red Shifts. It's like a blowback to the Cold War era complete with the Soviet Union-esque Oakley logo.
