I have a considerable amount of interest in the company. My stockbroker has always kind of laughed at me when i tell him to put my annual IRA contribution into Oakley, which ive been doing since early 2000s. I loved the fact that Oakley was different. Ive worked for them and know they run a poor operation sometimes, just as most of us do, but thats who Oakley was, different! OO is a stock no more. Now it is just another company under LUX control. I do not care whether Jannard has a controling interest, Del Vecchio has more money than god in this market andd soon Oakley will find its way to being just another f-ing sunglass.
I love money, and with this merger will and have made a TON, but im not happy what so ever and plan on selling out once the news settles. I used to live and breath Oakley but the thought of them joining forces with RayBan makes me sick. What does the future hold? Oakley WayFares and Aviators... NOT INTERESTED!
My broker has instructions to draft a letter to be sent out Monday morning with comments from a pissed shareholder, me. He knows the terminology as well as my passion for this company and my true financial stake. OO and their PR department will know just how ticked I am, but to be honest.. the worst part about it is they dont care! Jim is set to make a fortune on this deal and so is his son who owns nearly 15%. Money is money, but i hate making bad money and thats what this deal is. I FEEL CHEAP

Brian, great post and i see what you are saying. Oakley is a strong minded company that will NEVER admit they they missed the boat on anything. But heres the problem. A company as large as Oakley needs to grow and not shrink. They need to find a niche and drive with it. For instance. The golf industry is an almost $2billion a year industry. Nike makes 38% of its annual revenue from its golf division. Oakley makes a handful of shoes and a few shirts and accessories. However, you can buy a hat with Oakley golf tees but you cant buy the tees seperately. HUGE LOSS. I goto ALL the major trade shows every year that Oakley participates in. Surf Expo in Orlando, the major eye and sunwear show in NYC, SIA in Las Vegas. I see Oakley doing realllllly well. But what the venders really want, Oakley doesnt give them. When they wantto order more merchandise, Oakley doesnt have it availible in the colors/size or at all. Thats poor in my opinion. If you have ever dealt with Oakley in the sales world, you know the backorder game. After awhile, it sucks.
Cal Poly is a highschool in Cali that Oakley completely sponsors. Yes, they do make regular sporting attire, or atleast they brand it with the O. And if they dont do it on a regular basis, why not? What is to lose? MONEY???? No, the money is there.
I have worked for Oakley on and off for a few years. I value and respect the company, however when you posse a question of something changing, you are immediately wrong, no questions asked. I look at Oakley as a company that is scared to take their name to the next level. They dont seem to REALLY get it either. When they first came out with clothing, the clothing SUCKS and im most cases still does. The sizing is all flawed and the colors fade. Its been a problem since the first O-Stores opened and I was there for it.
Im an O-Freak, but for many reasons. Mostly because I own ALOT of OO Stock and miss the 24-26 days. But i dont want to see OO losing market share and fighting to be the little fish in the big pond of sporting good and accesories.
Yes my alma-mater is in the TB Area. where are you from?

I understand what you are saying, however where Oakley has gotten lost in success is the fact that THEY want to be the trendsetter and not follow the trendsetter. NIKE's NIKEID program was developed in 2000 and was perfected in 2002-3. Oakley put a project on the table to years after to try to duplicate and make the BTO program availible online. It started with the M-Frame, however Oakley had started phasing the M-Frame out once it introduced the Half Jacket. Then they slowly began developing the program, long after Nike's program was being used to create custom pieces for each user and their preferences. Oakley, with its new BTO program, still made their products very limited. They missed the boat fair and square in this program.
Another example is the internet overall. They have a horrible website, or did, to purchase new or existing products. They never have apparel or shoes even availible via the web and rarely have their ENTIRE product line availible. To be successful, which im not saying oakley is not, you must be able to put everything out their for customers to buy. Have everything listed, in all colors and sizes. And have plenty of them for people to buy.
Prime Example: Im a supporter of my the High School that I graduated from. I try to help them in anyway I can get good deals on equipment and other supplies. I contacted my Oakley rep, a very good friend. I requested they give me a cost quote on 25 pairs of shoes in the schools colors as well as warmups or some type of Oakley clothing with an O on it. They told me they couldnt work the deal because 30-50 is their typical custom order size........ So.... I contacted another friend of mine, a Nike rep. He had the head coach find the shoes and colors that they wanted. We built them and PAID for them on NIKEID.com. He then matches the colors on the shoes to warm-ups, free polos, and travel bags for each player, coach, and booster. More than $5000 in sales in five minutes. Oakley missed the boat very quickly because they wouldnt bend their limit rule.
They miss the boat on a product and they can the program. Look at the basketball shoes? Golf Line? Surf wear? You never see it ANYWHERE in sports, except lately in the olympics and x-games.
I LOVE Oakley. I Love OO too. I just want the best for Oakley and I want them to make as much money as possible to beat out a company like Nike or whatever else.

They never really made the impact that they wanted to in the shoe business. The most successful brand out of the shoes is and will be the golf brand, however they need to spend some time and money in strong brand placement to let people know that Oakley makes great golf shoes. Andy Barnes is and one day will be an average to good golfer. They need to put their product ALL over Adam Scott and other YOUNG and STRONG golfers to really get the name out. I would love to see Adam Scott walking the British Open in the rain holding a Static O Umbrella in his Tuxedo merlot shoes, an Oakley Cart Bag whipping off his Oakley hat with his Oakley stretch O Towel. AMAZING THOUGHTS!!!
Oakley at one point had 5 shoes that were due to be released that they shelved the release of. The names had not been decided, but they were dress shoe style with and without laces. They were really nice. They always seem to postpone the delivery of GREAT products and it is that that makes Oakley fail in department such as these.
The O-Store and Vault stores were to be special and now those are too becoming staturated just like the product was in the mid- 1990's. Pretty soon the stores will not have the exclusive value they once did. Pretty soon they will be in every metro city in the US and abroad.
They need to keep up with the trends, and stop trying so hard to become trendsetters. They loss market share EVERYTIME something they create doesnt go as planned.

I just bought the car and im taking delivery on Wed. The car is going straight to the shop on a flat bed to get some "minor work" done and these wheels are probably going to be put on it, but i know we have ALOT of PS nuts here, and wanted to see what it would look like. I have seen some pics of other black wheels, but i love the way these look.

Looks good Dann. Do you like?
I just think that items like this that are so closely related to ones country would be excellent for evetns like the Olympics, World Baseball Classic, TDF.

Can some one PS the following... GOD i love this thread!!!
Please do a variety of GASCANS, Black, White, Gunmetal frame colors with a flame, just like the old Str8 Jackets...
Also, can someone do a Half Jacket in a USA- Red, White, and Blue theme.
Jim, if you see this, i think Oakley should take the success from the Metal USA Icon and put it onto the most popular frame in the line up now. Maybe a Pearl white frame with red earsocks and blue lenses.
Also, can anyone PS luggage???

The LV vault store is about a $20 ride from center strip, like the Bellagio or Paris. I would say if you are comfortable, take the bus to Binions in Downtown and go from there by cab. Its a nice store, but slightly small, like most O-Stores. If you have some extra $$$ and time, check it out if you have never been to a vault. They have some cool old stuff but only a small selection of new merch.
Enjoy the city!

I would probably say it is a custom piece. One that someone just took a Polished/Fire frame and swapped in a Ruby lens.

All im saying is that they want you to get the most out of each sale. It is common in any retail environment for the sales person to ask you if you would like to add any socks or keychains, which is Oakleys main focus. They have higher profit margins on those items, so they want to push. Customer service is NUMBER one, no matter what. You want to give you customer a great experience no matter who they are or what they are buying. Be prepared for sales voltures though. Your few O-Store employees will swoop down and take a sale like it wasnt yours to begin with.
Keys to being a great O-Store employee:
Go the extra Mile- Clean, restock, fix, study as much as you can
Know your prices- Oakley prices are crucial. They will give you a couple little piece of paper that you should have on your person at all time. When it is slow, take it out and make sure you know ALL the prices for every combination.
Know your lenses- This is key because you want to give your customer the concept behind each lens if they ask. You want to know the lens transmisson and what light they are good for.
Know your materials- You will be tested on EVERYTHING that Oakley makes. You need to know the types of FMJ material and some history behind some frames.
Its a great job, have fun!!!
