I agree Dann, it would've been nice if they could've carried some of the detailing from the earstem through to the nosebridge. Maybe following the line through or doing something else with it, maybe even a colour matching logo on the nose?
It could've been more Gascan and had a simple, single line creating the entire top of the frame from stems to orbitals to nose bridge. The lenses could have less round in them and be more rectangular. I wouldn't much mind the stem protrusions on the bottom but not mirrored top and bottom, and what's with the line disecting the icon?
It kinda reminds me of all those B grade post world war 3 movies where the gangs have all this armour over there vehicles.
The Oil Drum is a nice change from whats been coming out latley. There throwing some Mad Science back in the Mix me thinks!
Is it for me ???? Have to try this one for sure, But just like the Gascan, Opinions change. And that Purple O is most definatley a Stand out feature.
Nice work Phil. I do like your version. I like the cleaner top line. But doing so does cut back down on the lens size.
I also agree with you that it doesn't seem so "Oakley" in design. But part of me says that is partially from the lens shape. The stems might not be styled after something that we've seen before but the fact that it is different in design is kind of what makes it Oakley.
I've noticed that all of the newer styles seem to have really bland nosebridges. I miss the sculpted and bullet-shaped bridges like on Racing Jacket and Half Jacket. However, those just don't fit with the fashion influence that sells big these days.
To me, it seems that the last few offerings have been more or less cut from a giant sheet of 3/16" plastic curved to fit a face or head with some additional sculpting after the fact. Nothing is as tubular or rounded out as it was on Fives, XXs or the Monster Dog even. It's all pretty flat.
Nice photoshopping there Phil, I have to say I'm glad they didn't make it like the third one but I agree I wouldn't have been entirley surprised if it had looked like that.
I agree I'm glad they didn't just enlarge the current Gascan. They did try to get a little more creative. But that third one was what I was expecting to see.
Big fashion glasses for sure but I'll definitely get some if they release some cool colorways. Phils 1st pic looks like an O Matter Spike. I also like the longer Earstems
