THere's a pic on www.phonescoop.com. They are a half frame Thump2. I'm not a big fan. Apparently, all they do is stream music from a bluetooth base station (other than being used as a blutooth headset of course). They have no internal memory.

O Rokr streams bluetooth audio from any phone or mp3 player with a bluetooth music profile.

Eh, I'm indifferent at this point. Hopefully it'll be better in the future.

Thanks to everyone for the news/pics.

Edit: What MP3 Players are Bluetooth compatible?

Yes but name one good mp3 player with bluetooth capability. THe only thing Oakley could be thinking is the the MP3 capable cell phone market it prime to boom.

Its here at last, it was only a question of time I think.

Really not impressed with the design, they went for a lazy solution I think; following the latest trend: new frames based or really similar to past ones.

As I understand it, this is a new generation of bluetooth not even compatible with the phones out now

That's sounds about right Adam :) It's a shame they didn't integrate this into the original Razrwire. It's like Microsoft releasing buggy OS's too early just to cash in on seasonal demand. The half frame gascan look just doesn't do it for me either.

i am curious about the sound of it , i think it cannot provide the best sounds due to the bluetooth . or am i wrong ?

by the way , is this the same technique that earphone-companies use on their wireless earphones ?

They could call them Half Cans. Not very good, but it's the best I can come up with on four hours sleep. Also, they could make a hat with the new squared icon and call it Gas Cap.

I'm not that impressed with the design of these either. It does seem like they just took the Gas Can/Thump 2 and tweaked it a bit. But since I do like the Gas Can - Thump 2 and ROKR aren't bad though to me. I will say that I do like the idea of being able to use these with a phone or MP3 player. But as it was said before what MP3 players will it work with? The article does mention an adapter for MP3 players...

"music streaming via Bluetooth from a compatible music-optimized mobile handset or portable music player equipped with a separately available, add-on Bluetooth adapter."

So maybe just about any MP3 player will work?

Well, the obvious use would be the up coming ROKR E2, but with a bluetooth adapter the glasses should become bluetooth headphones. I think Oakley used a modified thump 2 design for 2 reasons. A) this was to support motorola and was not put through development with the usual oakley design and time to work it out. B) they wanted to increase the number of electronic shades out there and felt the thump 2 design is good enough to go wide spread, and they just needed a simple way to differentiate the thump 2 from the O ROKR, imagine gettin ripped off with a 256 mb thump 2 thinking it is the new O ROKR, that would suck.

"O ROKR enables hands-free mobile communications for compatible Bluetooth-enabled mobile handsets plus wireless music streaming via Bluetooth..."

Am I wrong or would the Razr wire not do the samething? What makes this any different, except a new pair of Oakley. The idea is the samething w/Razr wire, right? Has the price been announced?

The O Rokr has stereo sound, plus music controls. The Razrwire doesn't have them.

I like the half-rim design, and the separate unit for music storage, which a number of us were hoping for. It must really help cut down on the size of the frames. I'm still not completely sold on the modified GC look though. I bet ilounge will have a review before you know it.

I do agree with Eric that it seems like a lazy solution to just cop the design off the T2 (though I am glad they went with an integrated solution rather than a separate module like the RazrWire). And I do like Jamey's "Half Can" name. Maybe if we combine those ideas, it'll be called "Half Assed". The Oakley Half Assed.

While A2DP isn't widely used at the moment, there will be many announcements this year with regards to mp3 players with bluetooth connectivity built in. There should be a few announcements from some major players at CES with regards to mp3 players using A2DP as well as the many phones this year that will be compatible. For existing players like ipod Motorola is working with naviplay to make their existing bluetooth adapter compatible with their bluetooth products. Remember O ROKR is coming out later in the half of this year so by that time there will be a number of products that you can use with it. Here are better pics of the O ROKR:

Hmm....this thing with MP3 Bluetooth Adaptor will make the Thumps obsolete. After all, the whole idea of the Thump is that you're losing all those wires.

It dose not come out till late this year, so I will not be surprised if the design changes some. Only time will tell.

I for one like the "Half-Gascan" design. But Oak makes a good point. Isnt Oakley pretty much shooting themselves in the foot as far as selling the Thump/Thump2 ?

Yes and no for the thump/thump2 obsoletion. I think the group that wants simple devices and not multiple devices will still go with the thump idea. But for those who want the phone option and don't mind having something in thier pocket then the new o rokr will fill that need.

I am sure that we will be collecting the O ROKR 5.0 eventually, with transition style lenses and the phone & mp3 player all built in and it will have more memory, better sound, and weigh less than anything around now. Technology answers the demands we place so everyone start demanding an Oakley empire!!
