I don't know anything about comic book superheroes but I thought I read that Captain America carries a 1911. Is that true?

He did use the 1911 during WWII in his 2011 movie, but he doesn't normally carry firearms as a standard.

Went to the comic shop and picked up the Graphitti Designs Gallery Edition of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns on a whim:

I had originally no plans of picking up the book due to having multiple editions of the book already, but it looked great in person so I had to pick it up. I always wondered why it was so high at $175. It turns out it's a much larger format than other Gallery Editions as well as IDW's Artist's Series, which showcases original art in the size of the art boards they were drawn on. This means it is one massive book.

For comparison sake, here it is compared to a regular Marvel omnibus:

That's huge!

My omnibus for the month. Oct-Nov is going to be busy, so I'll have to pace them.

Nice! I've always wanted to pick that one up. Very in-demand stories by Grant Morrison out of that New X-men run. I'm looking forward to seeing your hauls!

Thanks. Eric picked up the original printed way back and sent me the singles, but I figured I may as well get the reader copy so I'm not opening polybags over and over.

Received the last piece to the Marvel Legends line, the Iron Man helmet. No one would escape looking goofy wearing it but it does have some cool features like a removeable faceplate, electronic sounds when you re-attach the faceplate, and light up eyes you can still see out of when it's lit up:

Damn Oak, you're the man. So who is your all time favorite character and are you more of a DC or marvel guy?

I don't think I have an all-time favourite character anymore; i just like a whole slew nowadays but don't give preference to anyone. In the '90s and the early 2000s, I had preferred Wolverine but they went off the rails with him over the last decade, so I didn't have a replacemet favourite after that.

Most of the characters I like are Marvel, but I read a lot of DC and everything else including Image, Valiant and the indies.

Rick wouldn't wear it. Tony Stark doesn't rank high enough.

Nice! I'm thinking about getting the Clone Saga vol 1, too. While many detest the Clone Saga for trying to retcon 20 years of continuity, there is some good nostalgia that came out of the whole thing, as well as some good characters (Ben Reilly and Kaine, respectively the first and last Scarlet Spiders).

Most likely. These books were firmly in my initial years of interest. Got most in combo bags, but I remember the issue #400 tombstone cover

Any guesses as to how many thousands this auction will go for? It's being sold by Todd's son, Jake, so the provenance alone will get a lot of collectors to bid high (not to mention the very detailed sketch):

Is there a reason that he didn't do any originals in 30 years, but offered to do one just for an ebay auction. Seems like an odd scenario.

He's still doing original comic book artwork (virtually only doing covers), but he hasn't sold any of the originals since he started with Image. That's why his artwork goes for so much, since the only ones that hit the market are from his Marvel/DC days, pre-early '90s.

He still does convention sketches as well, but he isn't prolific at it. Most of them are quick 5 minute sketches. The one on auction is probably the second most detailed sketch he's done of Spider-man since he left Marvel (the most detailed is probably from the Hero Initiative charity auction in 2007)

He did this one sketch so his son could make some money and jumpstart his entrepreneurship. Just a dad trying to show his son some responsibility by helping him make his own money, something similar to that.

Yep, I thought it would max out at $6k, but it looks like it'll be well above that. McFarlane art is exploding yet again. I was watching the below auction and it ended up at $1,500. $1,500!!!! That would be high for a real piece of that quality, but I don't even think it's authentic (they really butchered Todd's signature):
